Stylists and Designers think about goods down to the stitch. We SEE and INSPECT characteristics, finishes and fillers. We VISUALIZE how the form, shape, and color will fill a space... but purchase, in part, based on how we service our clients.

Home furnishings is one large industry for makers, buyers, sellers, and re-sellers. It's a lot of the same stuff. So, in an effort to save time and to build service -orientated relationships that benefit our clients - we sometimes need things quickly, or repaired, exchanged, swapped out, or on loan to try in spaces - we buy from local retailers.
The first rocker in the image below is from Pottery Barn Kids. Photographed and styled beautifully.
The second rocker is about $200 less, the owner will educate you of its better construction, and it is made within the united 50 states. You can select a different fabric, or take this one home to try. And you are done. Easy, easy.
You can find it at KidsHomeFurnishings.com. They have a pop-up store on the Main Street in New Canaan, CT and have operated out of Connecticut for years. They are even showcasing http://www.ibrshop.com Itzy Bitzy Ritzy furnishings... very cute stuff.
Ask a designer friend or a stylist to lend their eye and to shop local with you.
Make a day of it... plan a trip to a handful of boutiques and cafes, and ask questions of the retailers.
Ask shop owners about their lines of furnishings, items on order, or better yet, plan on purchasing one big thing - give it a try! Believe me - it's the same stuff and sometimes BETTER - just without all the fancy photography. Although, photography can be a real treat when done in your own home. You're practically guaranteed to love your look!
